Flooding in Khon Kaen

On Friday 16 June a heavy afternoon downpour caused chaos in Khon Kaen. The underpass on highway 2 was flooded with some drivers abandoning their vehicles. Many other outlying roads were under 10-30 cm of water. I got delayed on the way to golf, shocking!

The new convention centre

The new convention centre in Khon Kaen is now open. This is a terrific boots for Khon Kaen. Many large companies, like Bank of Thailand and Thai Life Insurance have already based their regional centres in Khon Kaen. Now the convention centre has the potential to become the hub of MICE ( Meeting Incentive Convention Exhibition) and thus attracting more business to the area.

Health Security Bill

More than 200 protesters took to the stage at Khon Kaens convention centre on Saturday 17 June to oppose the new Health Security Bill. The protesters, gathered under the umbrella of the so-called Northeastern Health Security Lovers Network and were joined by members of the “gold card” universal coverage (UC) scheme, which offers mostly free hospital treatment. After a 6 hour stand off organisers scrapped the meeting.

Base Height Condominium

Property firm Sansiri says it has sold 80 per cent of its Bt2.1 billion Base Height Mittraphap-Khon Kaen condominium project, thanks largely to the government investing more in infrastructure projects in the province. This is the development next to Central Plaza.

Khon Kaen Football

On Wednesday evening 21 June Khon Kaen Football play their FA Cup game against Phrae United. This should be a great cup tie as currently Khon Kaen lie 2nd in the league whilst Phrae United are top.
