Khon Kaen provincial court indicted the four suspects in the Khon Kaen murder and dismemberment case on Tuesday.
They were charged with the murder of a karaoke bar worker, concealing her body and also with weapons charges. A fifth suspect was charge only with theft
Wichet Saenkham, a provincial public prosecutor, said the indictment came on the last day of police’s 84-day detention of the five suspects.
Charges of premeditated murder, body concealment, weapons possession and theft went to Preeyanuch Nonwangchai, 24, Kawita Ratchada, 25, Apiwan Sattayabundit, 28, and Wasin Namprom, 22.
“We have already informed the Khon Kaen Provincial Court of the prosecution orders,” Khon Kaen’s chief prosecutor, Wichet Saenkham, said yesterday. He said the prosecution orders were based on evidence and a review of the 706-page investigation report.
According to Wichet Saenkham, all five defendants will probably be brought to court today to provide their statements. Their trials will start within the next 15 days.
Nong Em – Warisa Klungjui, 22, – was the pretty karaoke girl found cut up in the Khon Kaen woods and the case went on to grab media attention due to the behaviour of the suspects and media. A kind of macabre celebrity status was given to the four suspects by certain parts of the media.
Let’s hope justice will bring some closure to this tragic case and the inevitable media frenzy is conducted in better taste during the trial.
