A 24 year old security guard was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning. The two other vehicles involved in the accident fled the scene.
The accident occurred at a U-turn near Ban Nong Saeng in tambon Phra Lap on the Khon Kaen – Kalasin bypass.
The man was identified as Preecha Paiyaposri, a security guard attached to a security office under the War veterans organisation (WVO).
Eyewitnesses told the police that Preecha’s motorcycle was hit by a car. The impact threw him to the middle of the road, where he was run over by an oncoming car, killing him instantly.
Highlighting the dangers on the roads in Thailand, Chiang Mai Rescue have posted a compilation of just a few of the road crashes the volunteer rescue first-responder were called out to last year.
It’s disturbing viewing of numerous high speed crashes, mainly at intersections.
I’ve always felt that there is not enough traffic control on many crossroads in Thailand – on some there is no control or road marking at all.
If in doubt stop first must be the best strategy at all intersections.
