Khon Kaen has a newish, very nearly completed, Water Park, that has been open for almost a year. The ‘biggest’ in North East Thailand according to their website. Its called Dino Water Park, naturally, keeping in line with the theme and obsession with dinosaurs in Khon Kaen. Its located off highway 2 and behind Platunam shopping mall.
I’ve visited there twice with family and friends. The first time was in December 2016. As you go to pay at the kiosk you just assume the place is not only open but fully functional. The general consensus amongst my friends in Khon Kaen, is that the prices are way to high. Adults 600b, Kids 300b, seniors 200b and baby under 90cm free. Id have to agree. Especially as it isn`t actually fully functional at time of writing.
As we entered on our first trip it was obvious straight away that construction work was still ongoing. In fact we were the only customers there! We sat down at the main impressive pool. This has plenty of seats, parasols, sand, safe area for children, a great wave machine, lots of inflatables and a stage for concerts I guess. It really is fantastic. Several lifeguards & jackets and clean. Impressed. My son and I wanted to go down one of the huge slides. As there were no other customers they turned it on especially for us.
On both occasions that we went, the main pool was open. But most of the other rides were not completed. They have a huge children’s wet play area and some amazing looking slides. When they finally get them finished and open it really will be great fun.
I didn`t eat at any of the onsite fast food places. But normal practice would be tasteless junk at over inflated prices.
My summary on Dino Water Park in Khon Kaen would be this; Its a great location near to Khon Kaen city. Great parking. Over priced. Brilliant main pool area with the sand, seating and wave machine. Some other great slides for adults and kids. I`m really glad I went but at those prices for an unfinished facility, I wouldn`t be in a hurry to go again. But I will go again.
