Police are investigating an accident that happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning which resulted in the death of a motorcycle taxi driver after a head on collision with a pick-up truck driven by a British national on Pratumnak Hill.
Witnesses told officers that the saw the motorbike involved driving the wrong direction up the hill prior to the collision.
Police arriving at the scene found British man, Jonathan Richard Harris, 42, in tears after the crash.
Medical personnel from the Sawang Boriboon foundation were quickly on the scene but they were unable to save the motorcycle taxi driver identified as Mongkhon Opun, 46.
A passenger on the motorcycle was also badly injured in the collision. Officers found her lying some 50 metres from the site of the accident in a pool of blood and suffering head trauma. She was taken by medics to Muang Pattaya Hospital, her identity has yet to be released.
It was reported that Mr Harris was driving a Mazda Tribute registered in Bangkok.
A witness told officers that they had seen the motorbike driving on the wrong side of the road traveling up the hill before the collision occurred at around 2:30am.
Police are examining security-cam footage and also interviewing witnesses.
